Merwede Residence – Luxury in a Coastal Atmosphere

Location and Project Vision

Merwede Residence is located on the first coastline in Gdańsk Brzeźno. Since the sea is within arm’s reach, the investor wanted the interiors to reflect a seaside, amber-inspired atmosphere.

• We aimed to create unique, refined, luxurious, yet cozy spaces. We collaborated with a talented local artist, recognized internationally. Today, looking at the final effect of her work, we can confidently say we couldn’t have made a better choice – says Bartłomiej Oset, Vice President of NDI Development.

Monika Błaszkowska – Art and Innovation

Monika Błaszkowska, an artist and designer, is a global pioneer in using panel technology that combines recycled materials with amber. Her craftsmanship has been recognized at the La Biennale Arte in Venice, “THE DESIGN DINE & MAKE A DIFFERENCE” competition in Dubai, and Milan’s RO Guiltless Plastic Gala – Europe’s most significant event for Zero Waste designers.

Art in the Residence Spaces

At the Migaloo home studio, Błaszkowska handcrafted panels, wall plates, and light decorations adorning the lobby and apartment entrance panels. These artistic decors bring warm tones and golden shimmer to the interiors.

• Designing decorations for a residence in such a location, I knew amber would play a crucial role. I combined it with walnut shells, gold flakes, and mica – a naturally golden, shimmering mineral. This timeless decor expresses a longing for craftsmanship, connection to place, and local tradition – explains Monika Błaszkowska.

Epoxy Relief Technique

The artist applied a modern epoxy relief technique, making each decoration a unique 3D artwork. Amber pieces – some over 9 cm in size – and organic elements like walnut shells protrude from the flat decorative panels.

• In a world of digitization and repetitive printed patterns on artificial quartz, this handcrafted creation with natural amber is truly unique among Polish developers – she emphasizes.

The Largest Amber Panel

A total of 20 kg of amber in various fractions was used for the decorations. The most spectacular piece is the lobby panel, measuring 4.2 x 1.4 meters, handcrafted in multiple layers. After two months of work, it underwent a patented carpentry treatment, giving the structure a sculpted rock-like appearance.

A Fusion of Modernity and Nature

To complement the amber decor, the investor incorporated concrete elements, giving the interiors a contemporary feel. Structural wallpapers add subtle patterns and textures, creating a unique ambiance.

Luxury Apartments in Merwede

Merwede is an exclusive NDI Development residence that blends seamlessly with Brzeźno’s villa-style surroundings. The intimate building houses only 74 stylish apartments. The last available unit is a 76-square-meter apartment featuring a corner balcony and windows facing south, west, and north.

The Success of an Artistic Collaboration

Migaloo home, as an artistic furniture panel manufacturer, conducted numerous test runs to align with the investor’s vision. This collaboration contributed to the commercial success of the project.
