On June 7, scientists in Canterbury, New Zealand, announced in the journal Cryosphere that microplastic was discovered in the vast majority of 19 samples collected in various parts of Antarctica. So far, the areas associated with environmental poisoning by this micro-junk (or micro-crap) have been in places inhabited by humans. Due to its innocent white colour Anartica is associated with pristine cleanliness.
Anartica is discussed in the context of melting ice caps, CO2 emissions, and climate warming. What came to the light of day was that for every 1 liter of melted snow there were 29 particles of unwanted waste.
As I went into production this morning and looked at the huge bags of dust from old food bottles and household chemicals, I diped my hand into them. I was overcome with joy that these little monsters will end up in my table instead of creating colourful dots far away on the pristine white snow.
The eco-friendliness of our furniture lies in the sustainable use of this PET bottle dust. For one square meter, we can get in about 3 buckets of 5 liters, depending on the top layer. This really makes me smile each and every time as I know what kind of future I am providing for it.
The countertop can be repeatedly renewed by polishing or sanding. Of course, microplastic particles are safe for us… As long as we find them on the table top – not on the plate, in the fish we consume.
Microplastic – Where can we find it?
