Migaloo home table at the main exhibition of the Venice Art Biennale.
⊗
Venice design is the main international exhibition of the Venice Biennale, held in the historic interiors of Palazzo Michiel, on the main canal in the center of this beautiful historic city.
Nominations were awarded by the European Cultural Center ( ECC) , which, together with the GAA Foundation, has been the institution curating the exhibition since 2011. The theme of the exhibition was : The Power of Matter, Cosmos and Interaction.
⊗
The exhibition hosted 60 designers from 30 different countries. They were to sensitize consumption consciousness, re model the production process towards circular products.
Our table fit perfectly into this model . Migaloo home presented a model of a coffee table, as an object showing an installation drawing attention to space junk that will forever remain in the orbit of our planet. Using a technology developed by Monika Blaszkowska, the table had a layer of levitating copper flakes dipped in resin, a beautiful elegant silk veneer gave the whole an additional three-dimensionality and gave the impression of structures woven by radio waves. The whole thing, in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint during transportation, was made in lightweight plywood – the table weighed less than 3 kg- despite its resin surface.
Migaloo home was recognized by the EUROPEAN CENTER OF CULTURE as an innovative product, a technology of nostalgic elegance with a twist of modernity and a surreal vision of metallic decors – simulating the levitation of space junk. Monika Blaszkowska participated in the opening of the exhibition with 5 artistic objects, including the Migaloo home table in May 2018, visitors could admire the exhibition in the historic Palazzo Michael until the end of September. It was a true feast of 21st century craftsmanship steeped in artistry and design.
Migaloo home at the time of nomination was a fledgling start-up, a company with big dreams, looking for its way, technology far beyond the Polish backyard, innovative production methods were still in development. This honor of recognition by the ECC of our table for the main exhibition of the Architecture and Art Biennale, was a credit to us for our products, which were viewed by more than a million people from around the world during the exhibition. Monika Blaszkowska, from a Polish architect, received a worldwide promotion to an international designer who told an important story for the world with her coffee table.
This post-exhibition piece of furniture has long been hosted in Venetian townhouses and accompanying exhibitions – only to return years later. It now adorns one of the most important living rooms in its existence, the main living room of the apartment of its creator. Every day, thanks to it, Monica is reminded of the importance of dreams, and the courage to pursue them, and the support of people and institutions that helped make those dreams come true. From an anonymous, niche production, to the world’s top design showroom, Migaloo home began its race for the recognition of innovative Polish creative thought in the international arena of the art and interior design market thanks to this exhibition.
